Under the dual stress of global change and intense human activities, the Surveying and Mapping Engineering program of the School of Geospatial Artificial Intelligence of ECNU is based in the Yangtze River Delta region. Guided by the theories of surveying and mapping science and technology, and relying on the Key Laboratory of Geographic Information Science of the Ministry of Education and major national science and technology projects, it is supported by the comprehensive integration of "3S" technologies. Through research on national geographic condition monitoring, GNSS high-precision navigation and positioning, environmental remote sensing, nighttime light remote sensing, and Earth system simulation, it continuously explores and seeks theories, methods, and strategies for geographic information science, remote sensing science and technology, and Earth observation and navigation. Currently, this discipline has undertaken and completed dozens of major national and key projects, as well as projects for enterprises and institutions, and its scientific research achievements have been recognized by all sectors of society. It has made important breakthroughs in environmental remote sensing, nighttime light remote sensing, Earth system simulation, GIS theory, and hyperspectral remote sensing. These studies have not only solved the scientific problems of this discipline but also provided scientific guidance for addressing ecological environmental carrying capacity.
Educational Objectives
1.Basic positioning of talent
Master Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the Important Thought of "Three Represents", the Scientific Outlook on Development, and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era; adhere to the Four Cardinal Principles; be patriotic and law-abiding; possess upright character, a rigorous academic attitude, and good physical and mental health; and have a sense of patriotism and mission. Oriented towards the frontiers of the discipline, major national needs, and the life and health of the people, cultivate reserve talents in surveying and mapping science who possess the potential for further studies, a strong sense of career and dedication, actively serve the socialist modernization, and have innovative thinking and capabilities.
2.Requirements for the Comprehensive Quality of Graduates
Master the solid basic theories and systematic professional knowledge of surveying and mapping science, while having a relatively comprehensive understanding and familiarity with the frontier fields and research methods of the surveying and mapping discipline. Have a good accumulation in the secondary disciplinary fields of surveying and mapping science, and possess the ability to independently engage in scientific research, undertake professional technical work, and serve society. Be relatively proficient in a foreign language, and have the ability to read professional foreign literature and carry out corresponding engineering and technical work.
Program Features
Centering on the overall development direction of the discipline, the training of Master of Surveying and Mapping Engineering mainly aims to resolve the contradiction of the shortage of high-level applied and composite talents in the surveying, mapping, and geographic information industry and related engineering departments, and to cultivate high-level composite talents in surveying and mapping engineering technology and management oriented towards the front line of production. Through joint training with industries and enterprises, Master of Surveying and Mapping Engineering students should master solid basic knowledge and broad professional knowledge in the surveying and mapping engineering field they are engaged in (mainly remote sensing information processing, geographic information science, and the project management and implementation of GIS and remote sensing), as well as advanced research methods and modern technical means to solve surveying and mapping engineering problems. They should be able to solve problems in the engineering field through frontier technologies such as geographic big data, artificial intelligence, and intelligent remote sensing processing, possess the ability to undertake engineering technology or engineering management work (such as in territorial spatial planning, geographic national condition monitoring, land survey, natural resource management, and transportation navigation), and have high comprehensive quality and strong innovative capabilities.
